Former Jeff West Tiger Mariah Murdie Breaks Nebraska-Omaha School Record
Mariah Murdie

A lot of times for athletes making the transition from the high school level to the college level can take some time to get used to especially going from the high school level to the Division I level.

For former Jeff West Tiger Mariah Murdie the transition has seemed rather simple, as she has shined in her freshman season on the University of Nebraska-Omaha women’s basketball team.

Murdie is coming off back-to-back double-doubles for the Mavericks, including setting the school record for rebounds in a game.

In a Feb. 13 loss to South Dakota State, Murdie recorded the first double-double of her career notching 11 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

She followed that up with a huge game Feb. 16 in a win at Purdue Fort Wayne, putting together a stat line of 11 points, 18 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists. Her 18 rebounds broke Omaha’s Division I record for rebounds in game.

In 20 minutes of action per game Murdie is averaging just under 8 points and 5.2 rebounds a night while shooting nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc.

This all comes after Murdie was named a first team Class 4A all-state selection last season at Jeff West, where she averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks per game leading the Tigers to a 16-3 record.

Murdie will look to finish her freshman campaign strong, as the Mavericks have three games remaining in the regular season looking to better their current record of 8-18.
