Jeff West Tiger, Olivia Brees Leading the Tigers on the Softball Diamond
Olivia Brees

It’s been a season to remember that isn’t quite done yet for the Jeff West Lady Tigers as they sit at 19-1 on the season and have earned a spot in the Class 4A-Division II State tournament.

The Tigers went through the regular season only losing once and claimed the Big Seven League title for the first time since 2006 and then won Regionals with an 11-1 win over Perry Lecompton in the Semifinals and a 5-0 win over Royal Valley in the Championship.

A big part of the success on the diamond this season for the Tigers is junior, Olivia Brees who has been dialed in at the plate and in the circle all season.

Brees in 20 games this season is touting a .534 batting average with 39 hits, 34 RBI, 16 runs scored, four homeruns and has not struck out once this season. All that damage has been done in 73 at bats this season, putting together a .890 slugging percentage and .533 on base percentage.

Her glove has also been quite solid for the Tigers this year also, as she’s only registered three errors this season putting up a 94.9 field percentage.

But perhaps her biggest impact for Jeff West has come inside the circle as she pitched in 17 of the 20 games this season for a total of 85 innings posting an 11-1 record with three saves. Brees only gave up nine earned runs on 34 hits and 18 walks this year, touting a 0.741 ERA. Perhaps the most daunting stat of Brees’ season is her 160 strikeouts, a school record, breaking her own previous record of 130.

The Tigers gear up for the 4A-DII State tournament this week and hit the diamond on Thursday in Pratt as the number one seed and will play at 5:00pm against the eight seed Chapman.
