Centralia Panthers Volleyball Successfully Defends 1A-DI State Title
Centralia Panthers Volleyball

For the second straight year and the 12th time in school history the Centralia Panther volleyball program raised a State title trophy at the end of their season, as they claimed the Class 1A-Division I title this year.

The Panthers came into the State tournament on the prowl to defend their State title and that is want they did in dominating fashion. Centralia opened the State tournament in pool play action and dispatched three opponents each in straight sets, not allowing more than 17 points scored against them. First up was Pratt-Skyline which Centralia took down 25-16, 25-7, then the Panthers pounced on LaCrosse winning 25-13, 25-7 and then capped off pool play beating Hoxie 25-14, 25-17 to finish pool play 3-0.

In the Semifinals the Panthers took on Waverly who they cruised past with a 25-13, 25-13 victory, sending them into the Championship match against an unbeaten Goessel team. Goessel got the best of Centralia in set one, but the Panthers settled in and controlled sets two and three to earn the win in three sets, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13.

With the 5-0 showing at State the Panthers finished off their State Championship season with a 44-1 record, winning 42 matches straight to end the year. On top of winning the State title, Centralia won the Twin Valley League regular season title with a 12-0 record, won the TVL tournament title and won the Wabaunsee, Valley Falls and Hiawatha Invite’s.

It was another true showing of great teamwork and discipline for the Centralia Panthers that translated not only to another winning season but another State title as the Panthers sit atop the Championship perch again.
