Troy Trojan, Tristan Speer Ends Wrestling Career with Second State Title

Tristan Speer who wrestled for Doniphan West for two years and the last two years with Doniphan West after transferring to Troy put the final stamp on an illustrious wrestling career over the weekend by capturing his second straight State title to close out his high school wrestling career.

The Troy senior capped his career by repeating as State champion at 195lbs in Class 3-2-1A and finishing off the year 24-0 with 17 pinfall wins and one technical fall victory. At the State tournament, Speer had close match ups but came up with the maneuvers needed for the wins, claiming a 4-2 decision win in the opening round and then following that up with a 1-0 decision. In the Semifinals, Speer picked up the pinfall win in 2:56, punching his ticket into the Championship bout in which he won by a 3-1 decision. Throughout the season he was ranked number one at 195lbs by the KWCA and won the Regional title to earn a spot at State.

Not only did Tristan need his wrestling career in an impressive way by capturing the State title he won his final 61 matches wrestled, spanning from his junior season into his senior year and finished his career with a 111-14 record with 72 pinfall wins. Speer qualified for State all four years on the mats and placed three times with his two State titles in the last two years.

The Troy senior as put together not only a great senior year with his with the Troy football team and basketball team and his success on the mats, but has put together a high school athletic career full of success and one to remember as he looks to continue his athletic career at Highland CC next year playing football.
