Holton Wildcats Strong Run Game Leads to Comeback Win Against Columbus
Holton Wildcat Rushing Attack

The rushing attack has been the bread and butter for the Holton Wildcats for years and this season and the Sub-State game versus Columbus was no different. Completing the comeback last Friday night the Wildcats earned the 23-22 win to earn a spot in the 4A-DII State Championship game in Salina against Holcomb.

The Holton offense rode the backs of four players with their rushing attack that notched 351 yards in the win against Columbus. Spencer Baum led the charge with 129 yards on 18 carries, while Mason Barta ran for 90 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown and Justin Rieschick had a touchdown on 10 carries with 92 yards. Justin Pool was also in the mix with nine carries for 40 yards. Wildcats churned out 5.9 yards per carry in the contest.

The offensive line of Brandon Lenherr, Brandt Rose, Justin Wells, Aaron Bain and Josh Bjelland have all helped spear head the Holton offense this season as the rushing attack as posted 3,954 yards, good for 329.5 yards per game, while scoring 35 touchdowns on the ground. Seven guys have 100-plus yards rushing on the season with five of those guys having 593 or more yards on the year, while nine different guys have a rushing touchdown.

The Wildcats will look to capture their fourth football State in school history on Saturday in Salina against Holcomb.
