Axtell Eagle, Aaron Schmelzle Has Eagles Soaring High to Start Season

The Axtell Eagles boys basketball squad hit the hardwood knowing that this season could be one they make some noise in the Twin Valley League with their experience coming back and they have already started to get attention to start the season starting the year 3-0 with wins in the Falcons Classic.

Eagles opened the season with a 79-19 win over Independence Home School, then beat Baileyville-B&B 43-36 and dispatched St. Xavier. Senior, Aaron Schmelzle is one big part of the Eagles early success and will be a key throughout the season with his play and leadership on the court. Aaron opened up the year pouring out 24 points on Independence Home School as the Eagles cruised in their season opener. He followed that with a 14 point performance the next night against Baileyville-B&B, where he started the game off scorching hot hitting his first four three-pointers in the contest. Then against St. Xavier he many have not scored a lot only having two points, but he grabbed four rebounds and dished out six assists, in a game he didn't play many minutes.

Aaron, last year was a top play on the Eagles squad as a junior, earning All-League Twin Valley League second team honors, while averaging 12.2 ppg and 5.7 rpg last season.

Schmelzle has helped propel the Eagles off to a fast start this season after only win five games all of last year the team as three wins under their belt thus far this season. Aaron and his fellow Axtell Eagle teammates look to use their experience and fast start to this season to make quite a bit of noise in the Twin Valley League this season.
