Hiawatha Red Hawks Girls Cross Country Team Runs to 3A State Title
Hiawatha Red Hawk Girls Cross Country Team

For the past few years the Hiawatha lady Red Hawks cross country has been pretty strong and notched a pair of Class 3A State runner-up performances as a team but this year the Red Hawks took the final step up on the ladder and captured the 3A State title.

Behind four Top 30 performances the Red Hawks raced their way to the 3A State title winning by 11 points. Leading the way was Elizabeth Kettler who placed tenth at State, while Kate Madsen was not too far behind earning 14th place. Mary Rosa and Jasmine Morey each recorded Top 30 finishes placing 21st and 30th, while Emma Williams, Madison Gilbert and Nicole Stueve all were in action for Hiawatha also placing 42nd, 79th and 85th.

Throughout the season Hiawatha showcased they are a strong team winning the Jeff West, Holton and Hiawatha Invites and taking second in the Horton and Sabetha Invite. The Red Hawks also competed against some of the top flight competition in all of the State and took second in the Blue Division race out of 31 teams. Hiawatha also captured the Regional title to qualify for State and won the Big Seven League title for the fifth straight year.

Hiawatha girls continued their strong cross country performances from over the years and took the next step by capping the 2017 season as 3A State champs.
