Holton Wildcat, Kyrstie Miller Becoming Leader on Court for Wildcats
Kyrstie Miller

Success on the hardwood is something the Holton lady Wildcats basketball squad has become accustom, too and this season hasn’t been any different as the Wildcats are off to a 11-1 start this season and recently captured their fifth straight Basehor-Linwood Invitational crown and took over the number one stop in the latest KBCA rankings.

A key part to the Wildcats success this season has been junior, Kyrstie Miller who leads the Wildcats this season in points, rebounds, steals and blocks per game, touting a stat line of 9.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 5.3 spg, 1.5 apg and 1.1 bpg.

Miller was a key part of the Wildcats fifth straight Basehor-Linwood Invitational as she was a stat sheet stuffer during the tournament, tallying 30 points, 19 rebounds, 18 steals, four blocks, four assists and only six turnovers.

Kyrstie opened the tournament helping Holton to a smooth 45-9 win over Platte County as the Wildcats displayed shutdown defense only giving up two field goals and forcing 31 turnovers on Platte County. Miller in the game posted seven points, nine rebounds, one block, three assists and seven steals.

In the semifinals, Kyrstie registered her best point performance of the year posting 16 points in the Wildcat 51-24 win over Basehor-Linwood. She added three rebounds, an assist and six steals. In the championship Holton took down Hayden 47-31 to win the Basehor-Linwood Invitational. The junior, Miller put up another solid all-around game with seven points, seven rebounds, three blocks and five steals.

This year the Wildcats came into the season replacing all five starters and Kyrstie Miller who has enjoyed success in her first two seasons as a Wildcat has blossomed into a leader this season for the lady Wildcats. Miller was part of the Wildcats state champion team two years ago as a freshman and part of the state runner-up team last year.

Miller is a multi-sport athlete as she’s a multiple time state golfer along with a thrower on the Holton track and field squad, making state last year as a sophomore. As a junior, Miller as already verbally committed to play basketball at Emporia State University.

Kyrstie’s athletic ability, drive and success has help Holton this year with a well balanced team as the Wildcats look primed to reign at the top of the Big Seven and make a run at state again on the hardwood.
