Looking to continue to build up the program the Hiawatha Red Hawk softball team was hungry to open the season and once they got the opportunity they took advantage in the season opening double-header with Maur Hill-Mount Academy.

The lady Red Hawks recorded a sweep in the season opening action and did so controlling both games winning 19-2 and 16-3 over Maur Hill.

Spear heading the offensive performance was the play of junior, Bethany Meyers who recorded three hits and two RBI’s in each victory. The Red Hawk junior in the double header went 6-6 with four singles, a double, triple, four RBI’s and two walks.

Meyers returns to the Red Hawks this year as an upperclassmen and will not only be looked to for her offense and play on the diamond but also leadership to help the team continue to take steps upward as a program.
