Holton Wildcat, Bailey Flewelling Providing Big Impact for Softball Team

Holton Wildcats softball team is having a great year sitting at 13-3 on the season with their three losses all coming in 5A-6A schools.

On Monday, April 30th the Wildcats swept ACCHS (15-0 & 17-0) to improve to 13-3 on the season and last week they swept two other Big Seven League opponents beating Hiawatha (15-0 & 16-0) and Nemaha Central (4-0 & 11-1).

While contributions have come from all over for the Wildcats who have a good mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen the play of sophomore, Bailey Flewelling has been at the forefront of the lady Wildcats success. Flewelling last week in four games had 10 hits, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and eight extra base hits.

Flewelling against Hiawatha in game one went 1-4 with three RBI’s, a home run and run scored and followed that up in game two with a 3-3 performance with three runs scored, three RBI’s, a triple and home run. The sophomore continued to smash the ball against Nemaha Central going 2-3 in game one against the Thunder with a pair of runs scored, two RBI, a double and home run and then went 4-4 in game two with three RBI, run scored, two doubles and a triple.

The sophomore prior to the series with ACCHS in the first 14 games of the season was hitting .562 and had 27 hits, 31 RBI, 22 runs scored, with nine doubles, five triples and five home runs. She was leading the team in hits, RBI, doubles, triples and home runs.

The Wildcats are playing some great ball getting contributions from top to bottom in the lineup and all over the field and Flewelling and her teammates look to continue their strong play to build towards a run in the postseason.
