Broxterman Leads Royal Valley to 3A State Basketball Championship
Mary Broxterman

For the first time in school history the Royal Valley Panthers captured a girls state championship over the weekend as the Panther girls basketball team knocked of Cheney in the 3A title game in Hutchinson on Saturday.

The Panthers received big-time performances all week long, but none bigger than the play of senior Mary Broxterman who was named the MVP of the tournament by Sports in Kansas.

She opened up the tournament with 25 points and 9 rebounds in a 56-36 win over Eureka before following that up with 26 points and 9 rebounds in Royal Valley’s semifinal victory over Norton.

Nothing compared to Broxterman’s performance in the title game, as the senior poured in 25 points and 14 rebounds as the Panthers took down Cheney in overtime 55-52.

On the season Broxterman nearly averaged a double-double, scoring just over 15 points while pulling down 10 rebounds per game.

She was also recently named a first team all-Big 7 League selection, which is the second straight season she was named to the first team.

Broxterman has cemented herself as one of the top players to ever play at the Hutchinson Sports Arena and will forever have a place in Royal Valley sports history.
