Nemaha Central's Austin Gerety Off to Dominant Start on the Mound
Austin Gerety

The 2019 high school baseball season could not be off to a better start for the Nemaha Central Thunder as the team is off to a 4-0 start and have only given up nine total runs on the season.

A major part to the success of the Thunder so far this season has been the play of senior Austin Gerety who delivered a dominant performance in a win over Hiawatha on Thursday.

In Nemaha Central’s 10-0 game one victory Gerety shined on the mound, tossing four no-hit innings while not allowing a run and striking out eight batters.

He also recorded two RBI’s at the plate and scored a run, as the Thunder used a 6-run sixth to force the run-rule to come into effect.

On the season Gerety has thrown a total of eight innings, allowing just three hits while striking out 15 and only walking three.

At the plate he is batting .500 through four games with one double, four RBI’s and six runs scored.

Last season Gerety was outstanding for the Thunder, leading them to a 15-6 record while also earning second team All-USA Kansas Baseball honors from the USA Today along with first team all-state honors by the KABC.

Gerety will look to continue his strong senior campaign as the Thunder try to recapture the magic from when they won a Class 3A State Championship in 2016.
