For the second straight year the Sabetha girls went to the Burlington Invitational and came away on top capturing the tournament championship Saturday with a convincing 55-23 win over 4A Labette County in the championship game.

Throughout the tournament it was an unlikely offensive threat who helped lead the charge in Sabetha senior Kinley Schuette who tied for the team lead in scoring in the title game with 11 points.

Those 11 points were well above her season average of 5.3 points per game while she also knocked down 9-of-11 3-pointers in the tournament along with being tasked to guard the opposing team’s best offensive threat.

This all comes after Schuette didn’t play basketball a year ago, but it hasn’t affected her as she is shooting 40 percent from long range on the season while filling the stat sheet each night with rebounds, steals and assists.

Schuette was named to the all-tournament team with her effort and will look to help lead the Bluejays to a strong finish as the Sabetha girls are 10-1 entering the second half of the season.
