It has been an up-and-down high school volleyball season to this point for Perry Lecompton but Saturday afternoon the Kaws shined taking second place at the Atchison Invitational.

The Lady Kaws went 4-1 on the day to push their record to 14-11 overall and a major part to the success of Perry has come from the play of junior Katy Hurd.

At Atchison Hurd led Perry with 29 total kills to go along with 26 digs, five aces and 12 blocks.

On the season Hurd has totaled 206 kills, 127 digs, 120 blocks, 21 aces and an 81.5 serve percentage.

Hurd was an honorable mention all-Big 7 League selection a year ago and, in her career, has totaled 444 kills, 27 aces, 268 blocks and a 78.7 serve percentage.

She will look to continue to lead the Kaws through the final two weeks as Perry will wrap up Big 7 play tonight hosting Sabetha.
