Stone's Big Night Has Perry Lecompton Back in 3A Title Game
Parker Stone

In the two weeks leading up to the Perry Lecompton football team’s sub-state championship game against Holton Friday night, senior wide receiver Parker Stone had been absent due to being in a quarantine related to COVID-19.

In his first game back Friday night with his band of brothers, Stone made his presence known, delivering an eight catch, 109-yard and one touchdown performance while leading the Kaws back to the Class 3A State Championship game in a 22-9 win over Holton. His 27-yard TD catch in the second quarter put Perry ahead for good.

It marked the second victory for Perry over the Wildcats this season and was far and away Stone’s biggest game of the year.

His 109-yard performance was the first time he had gone over 100 yards this season and just the second time he went over 80 yards after recording 91 yards and a touchdown in Perry’s 52-6 win over Santa Fe Trail back in October.

On the season Stone now has 28 catches for 544 yards and five touchdowns while averaging nearly 20 yards per reception.

His performance this season has earned him First Team All-Big 7 League honors and comes after a big junior season where he finished with 36 catches for 637 yards and five scores.

He is now over 1,100 yards receiving in his career with 11 touchdowns and for his career is averaging over 18 yards per reception and around 35 yards per game.

Stone is also a starting cornerback on defense and had six tackles including two for loss in the semifinal win against Holton last week. And finally, Stone serves as the Perry punter and resumed those duties this week. The senior has averaged 35 yards per punt on 18 kicks this year.

Stone will have a chance this Saturday to make another big impact and lead the Kaws to a 3A State Championship as Perry is set to take on Andale for the second straight season in Hutchinson with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. and live coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. on 103.9 KNZA.
