Cassidy Corby

With Nemaha Central High School not fielding a girl’s golf team, Cassidy Corby had a decision to make when she was a freshman.

Play by herself during the girl’s season or join the boy’s team and compete at the same tees as the rest of the guys.

Corby decided to play with the guys and last week she proved herself shooting a 79 at regionals to take second place and qualify for the 3A state meet.

That came after a seventh-place finish at the Big 7 League meet two weeks ago at Holton where she shot an 88 to lead the way for the Thunder.

These last two scores are far and way her best scores she has posted this season as she has averaged a 90 on the year.

She has qualified for state every year at Nemaha Central besides last year due to the season being cancelled because of COVID-19.

Not only has Corby excelled on the golf course, but she also put together a strong showing for the Nemaha Central girls basketball team earning all-state honors this past season.

Corby will look to carry her momentum into a potential spot on the podium at state as she has already qualified for day two in Hesston.
