Audrey Schmitz

She's a two-time defending state champion and easily is one of the best runners in the Kanzaland area and the entire state. Axtell Eagle senior, Audrey Schmitz has started her senior year and defense of her back-to-back state titles in Class 1A, off with a tremendous start to the cross country season with the first three cross country events of the season.

After taking third place in the Marysville Invite to open up the season with a time of 17:17.78, Audrey responded to win the next two events she has competed in, including the Onaga Invite last week. Schmitz won the Washington County Invite with a time of 17:21.24 and then the Onaga Invite last week with a time of 16:48.20, both competitions she won by almost a whole minute each time.

Axtell is one of the top teams in both girls and boys cross country in Class 1A and Audrey is a big part of the Eagles third place ranking in the last Kansas Coaches cross country polls.

Audrey, is the current two-time defending champion in Class 1A, as she won state last year with a time of 15:48.99 and won state in 2010 with a time of 15:51.91. Schmitz started her success on the cross country circuit as a freshman at Axtell as she qualified for state back in 2009 and finished fifth as a freshman with a time of 16:36.22.
