Volleyball highlighting the weekend of high school sports and 10 Kanzaland area teams meet up against each other in Hiawatha at the Hiawatha Invite.

It would be an action packed day of volleyball at the Hiawatha high school and middle school gyms with pool play and them the semifinals, consolation and finals. Only six of the 24 total matches on the day went to three sets, but plenty of the sets in all the matches were tight between all the teams.

In the red pool it was the top team in the state rankings in Class 1A -Division II, the Baileyville-B&B Falcons winning the pool with a 4-0 record in pool play, although one of their matches was forced to three sets that came against Doniphan West. The Jefferson County North Chargers came in second in the pool with a 3-1 record only loss to B&B. B&B and JCN both moved onto the semifinals of the tournament.

Meeting up with those two teams would be the Centralia Panthers and Atchison Redmen. Centralia like their counterpart in the Twin Valley league, B&B won their respective pool with a 4-0 record, as the Panthers won all their matches in straight sets. The Atchison Redmen needing a win against Immaculata in their last pool play game to secure second in the pool got it in three sets and finished pool play 3-1.

In the semifinals it was Centralia vs. JCN and B&B vs. Atchison. Centralia swept JCN in straight sets but it didn't come easy after winning set one 25-13 the Panthers fought back in set two to win it 25-23. Centralia was down the entirety of the set, until the end when they came back for the win. For the B&B Falcons and Atchison Redmen it was a three set matchup in the semi's. The Falcons grabbed set one 25-17, but Atchison responded with a 25-22 set two win. Down early in set three the Falcons stormed back and downed Atchison 25-14. That set up a all TVL championship game with Centralia and B&B.

Both teams having met up earlier this season with B&B handling business and winning over Centralia, well this time it was different story. Centralia in a tight first set pulled of the 25-21 set win and thus were one set away for the tourney crown. Second set was back and forth until Centralia opened up a lead and ultimately stretched it out to win 25-18 and swept B&B in the championship game.

Atchison swept JCN 26-24 and 25-14 in the third place game.
