(KTNC) -  Peru State saw its most successful football season in five years come to an end with a 38-13 loss to 4th-ranked Baker University.

The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 28-6 in the second half after leading just 10-7 after two quarters.  Baker scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to secure the win.

The Bobcats end the season with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  The seven wins are the most for Peru State since 2009.  

The ‘Cats finished in tie for fourth in the conference with Mid-America Nazarene University, although the Bobcats won the head-to-head match-up between the teams.

With the win, Baker claims at least a share of the Heart of America Athletic Conference title with an 8-1conference record and a 10-1 overall record.  The Wildcats should host a first-round NAIA playoff game.

Despite losing their final three games, the Peru State football team is ranked in the final NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Bobcats finished 24th in the final poll issued Sunday afternoon.  Peru State finished the year with a 7-4 record after a 38-13 loss to Baker University on Saturday.  Three of the Bobcat’s four losses were to conference opponents that finished in the top eight in the final poll.

Cumberlands College of Kentucky is ranked first in the final poll, with Grand View College second.  Both teams finished the year with 10-0 records.  Carroll, Baker University, and Morningside College round out the top five.

The Heart of America Athletic Conference, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Frontier Conference are tied for most teams in the final poll with four each.

From the HAAC, Baker is ranked 4th, Missouri Valley is 7th, Benedictine is 8th, and Peru State is 24th.
