Onaga Boys & Centralia Girls Win Onaga Track Quad Titles

On Tuesday three Twin Valley League schools and one other competed against each other in a track and field quad competition at Onaga.

In the boys competition it was the host Onaga coming out on top by just three points, posting 95 points to just beat out Centralia who took second with 92 points. Wetmore finished third with 43 points, while Mission Valley tallied 42 points.

On the girls side the action was dominated by Centralia as they posted 123 points to claim first place as a team in the competition. Mission Valley, Onaga and Wetmore all three finished with 39 points on the day.

Onaga boys on the day were led by six first place performances in all the events two in the field competitions and four on the track. Both, Michael Bliss and Logan Marten won field events claiming the javelin and triple jump, respectively. Bliss had a toss of 154'7 to win the javelin, while Marten's leap of 37'9 3/4 won him the triple jump. On the track Onaga won the 300 meter hurdles, 3200 meter run, 400 meter dash and 4x400 meter relay. Garret Ames raced his way to the 300 meter hurdles win with a time of 47.74 and was part of the Buffalos 4x400 meter relay team that posted a time of 3:53.23 to win that event. Ames was joined by Wyatt Cordell, David Koelzer and Wyatt Minihan on the 4x400 meter relay team. Koelzer also claimed the 400 meter dash title racing to a time of 53.27 to grab the win, while Michael Eisenbarth paced himself to the win the 3200 meter run, winning by over 20 seconds (11:04.94).

For the Centralia boys multiple first place showings were earned in competition as Darrian Turner sprinted his way to wins in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.39 and 24.24. Turner was also part of the 4x100 meter relay team for the Panthers that claimed first place as he partnered with Wyatt VanDorn, JT Rosine and Sam Steinlage to post a time of 48.28 and win. Rosine added to that first place with a first in the long jump behind a leap of 19'0.5, while Cody Huerter claimed the pole vault title with a vault of 12'0 and Joey Ferron won the shot put, securing the win with a toss of 41'1. Brett Burdiek was another multi-event winner for the Panthers winning both the 100 meter hurdles (16.28) and the high jump (5'10) events.

The Wetmore Cardinal boys took home three first place performances on the day in the 800 and 1600 meter runs and 4x800 meter relay. The relay team consisted of Aaron Achten, Josh Ballenger, Jeremy Hoelscher and Layne Hodge and they won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:29.30. Achten also won the 1600 meter run racing to a time of 5:08.00 and Hodge won the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:20.80.

In the girls competition it was Centralia leading the action as the lady Panthers claimed 10 first place finishes in the 18 events on the day. Mayda Stallbaumer was a part of three first place finishes as she claimed the 800 and 3200 meter run titles with times of 2:53.43 and 14:41.88 and was part of the Panthers 4x800 meter relay that won with a time of 11:47.40. Blair Burdiek, Kennedy Korpi and Malori Koch joined Stallbaumer on the 4x800 relay team and both Burdiek and Korpi also ran on the Panthers 4x100 meter relay team who posted a 57.74 to win, too. Chelsea Huerter and Cassidy Haulfer joined Burdiek and Korpi on the 4x100 meter relay team; Haufler added to her day with a first place in the pole vault (7'6).

Both, Drew Kramer and Tara Bergman each earned multiple first place finishes on the day, too for Centralia. Kramer claimed both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles titles with times of 20.02 and 59.90, while Bergman won both the discus and shot put with tosses of 111'10 and 32'4, respectively. Liz Hasenkamp registered the other first place finish by a lady Panther as she won the javelin with a toss of 104'6.

Onaga lady Buffalos claimed three first place finishes on the day winning the 4x400 meter relay, 1600 meter run and triple jump. The team of Shay Duer, Rebekah Glessner, Jocelyn Marten and Maggie Revell took home first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:46.31, while Revell also won the 1600 meter run behind a time of 6:19.52. Glessner added to her day with another first place, also as she leapt her way to a win in the triple jump (30'07 3/4).

The Wetmore lady Cardinals had one gal earn a first place finish on the day and that was Mari Vienna who claimed the 100 meter dash title with a time of 14.16.

The area teams will look to build upon their early competitions this season as they continue action on the track next week as Wetmore, Onaga and Centralia are all set to compete at the Nemaha Valley Invitational on Tuesday, April 15th.
