Centralia Boys & Pawnee City Girls Win Nemaha Valley Track Invite Titles

Nine teams from the area took to the track and field on Tuesday in Seneca at the Nemaha Valley Invitational as the Big Seven team hosted seven Twin Valley League teams and one team from Nebraska.

In the girls competition it was the team north of the border, Pawnee City, taking home first place as a team finishing with 122 points, 20 points better than second place. Host, Nemaha Valley took home second place just three points ahead of B&B who placed third as a team. The rest of the team finishes were: 4th - Centralia, 5th - Valley Heights, 6th - Axtell, 7th - Onaga, 8th - Troy and 9th - Wetmore.

On the boys side it was Centralia dominating the competitions to claim first place as a team behind 132 points, 29 points better than second place. The Valley Heights Mustangs posted a second place showing and Pawnee City grabbed third as a team. The rest of the team finishes were: 4th - Axtell, 5th - Onaga, 6th - Nemaha Valley, 7th - B&B, 8th - Wetmore and 9th - Troy.

Pawnee City paced the way on the day with the most wins in the events boys and girls combined claiming nine gold medals. The Indians were led by Mariah Willey who took home three golds on the day winning the 100 meter hurdles (15.55) and leaping to wins in the high jump (5'0) and long jump (17'06'.75). Shelby Hundley claimed first place showing by a Pawnee City Indian as she won the 300 meter hurdles (48.71), while the Indians 4x400 meter relay team took first (4:35.30). On the boys side Voy Pearson claimed first in the 300 meter hurdles (44.78), while three guys won field events. Colten Fisher, Scott Borcher and Cody Nightingale each won field events winning the pole vault (13'0), shot put (54'03) and discus (132'08.25), respectively.

Valley Heights Mustangs followed Pawnee City with the second most first place performances on the day as seven first place showings were earned by two different Mustangs. Elijah Smith had the best individual performance on the day winning four events, racing his way to wins in the 200 meter dash (22.78) and 110 meter hurdles (15.34), while leaping to wins in the long jump (21'10.75) and triple jump (43'08). On the girl’s side, Brandi Jo Roepke grabbed a trio of gold performances for the Mustangs as she sprinted to wins in the 100, 200 and 400 meter runs with times of 12.46, 26.43 and 1:00.92.

The Onaga Buffalos saw five individual first place performances with Maggie Revell leading the charge as she paced her way to wins in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, posting times of 6:24.48 and 13:59.81. On the boys side Michael Bliss, Wyatt Cordell and the Buffalos 4x400 meter relay claimed first place performances. Bliss tossed his way to a win in the javelin (155'02), while Cordell ran to the win in 400 meter run (54.05) and with a time of 3:47.49 the Buffalos 4x400 meter relay won.

Centralia, Axtell and B&B all registered four first place performances on the day at the Nemaha Valley Invitational.

For the Panthers Mayda Stallbaumer and Tara Bergman claimed first place showings in the girls competition winning the 800 meter run (2:24.11) and the discus (111'09), respectively. On the boys side Centralia's 4x100 meter relay posted a time of 45.84 to claim first, while Brett Burdiek won the high jump (6'0).

Axtell saw wins in boys 1600 and 3200 meter runs and both the boys and girls 4x800 meter relays. Zach Heinen paced his way to the win the 1600 meter run (5:02.02), while Tracy Schmitz ran his way to the 3200 meter run win (10:56.58). The Eagles girls 4x800 team posted a time of 11:18.00 to earn the win, while the boys race to a time of 8:58.34 to win.

The B&B Falcons had three of their four first place performances come in the girls competition on the day with Sam Wessel winning the triple jump (33'01.50), Laura Sudbeck winning the shot put (38'08) and the Falcons 4x100 meter relay winning behind a time of 53.62. Jake Koelzer claimed the lone first by a B&B Falcon boy winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.09.

The host, Nemaha Valley Raiders were the only other school to have individual first place finishers on the day as the Raiders had a trio of gold medal winners. Shaylyn Stallbaumer tossed her way to the win in the javelin (132'10), while Rachael Baumgartner won the pole vault (9'0). Colin Lierz claimed the other first place performance by winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.20.
