Falls City, Auburn, compete at Syracuse Track Meet

(KTNC) - Falls City and Auburn were among the teams competing Thursday at the Scott Nisely Invitational Track Meet at Syracuse.
Crete was the boys’ team champion and Syracuse was the girls’ team champion.
Boys’ team standings show Crete first with 101 points, Norris second with 94 points, Beatrice third with 90, and Syracuse fourth with 84.5 points. Four points separated the 5th through 8th place teams. Auburn was fifth with 35 points, Nebraska City was sixth with 34, then came Lincoln Christian with 33 points and Falls City with 32. Fairbury was 9th.
Individually, Falls City’s Lee Huettner won the triple jump, with a distance of 41'11". Falls City finished 1-2 in the event, with Mitchell Harling taking second place. Other Falls City place-winners Thursday were Huettner and Harling, 4th and 6th respectively in the long jump. Zach Jordening was 4th in the high jump. Brandon Gibson, Trenton Pentecost, Derick Eickhoff, and Cody Schawang finished 5th in the 3200-meter relay, Jeremy Robinson, Mitchell Harling, Lee Huettner, and Zach Jordening combined to finish 5th in the 400-meter relay, and Schawang, Harling, Robinson, and Huettner placed 6th in the 1600-meter relay.
Jake Heitkamp of Syracuse won the high jump, and Syracuse won the 3200-meter relay.
For Auburn, Quintin Boden was 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in the discus, Reason Garcia was 4th in the 100-meter dash, Tyler Wredt was 3rd in the 800-meter run, and Chris Davison was 3rd and Dakota Groves 4th in the 1600-meter run.

Syracuse won the girls’ portion of the meet with 97 points, with Crete second with 92 points, Beatrice third with 88, and Norris fourth with 78. Lincoln Christian had 58 points for fifth place, Auburn had 44 points for sixth place, Fairbury was seventh, Nebraska City eighth, and Falls City ninth with 9 points.
Individual winners include Haley Harsin of Syracuse in both the 800 and 1600-meter runs and Emily Harsin of Syracuse in the 100-meter hurdles. Syracuse also won the 1600-meter relay.
The Auburn girls had a couple second place finishes. Julie Slama was second in the triple jump and Melissa Davison was second in the 800-meter run. Davison also finished 3rd in the 1600-meter run and Slama was 3rd in the long jump. Auburn picking up points for Auburn were Taylor Peterson, 4th in the pole vault and 5th in the high jump, and Emily Knipe, 6th in the high jump.
Falls City's top individual finish was in the 3200-meter run, where Lainey Larsen placed 4th. Krystal Samqua was 6th in the pole vault. Falls City also finished 5th in the 3200-meter relay, with the team of Larsen, Brooke Scheitel, Lindsey Duerfeldt, and Cheyenne Dovel, and 5th in the 400-meter relay, with the team of Samqua, Madison Olberding, Alyssa Frederick, and Molly Brown. Sydney Armbruster, Bailey Gilkerson, Jordan Phroper, and Brittany Webster combined to finish 3rd for Falls City in the Throwers' Relay.
