Hiawatha Dominates at the Falls City Cross Country Invite
By Mike Smith

The Hiawatha Redhawks cross country squad went north of the border to take part  in the Falls City Invite and highlighted the meet in impressive fashion, dominating the boys and girls competition.

Four first places were earned by the Redhawks on the day, as they had runners finish individually in first place and both the girls and boys teams finished first, also. On the girls side with only five runners the Redhawks finished with 13 team points after all five of the girls finished in the top 11 of action.

Leading the way for the Redhawks again was sophomore, Jordan Puvogel as she registered a time of 15:40 on the day, cruising past the competition as she beat the second place finisher by a 1:38. Joining, Jordan in the top five was her teammate, Kailey Davis who placed fourth. As for the rest of the lady Redhawks, they placed eighth, ninth and eleventh in the action. Katie Rosa ran her way to a eighth place finish, she was followed right up by Mykah Barnes registering a ninth place finish and Sophia Fortmeyer ran her way to eleventh on the day.

For the boys the success was there, too just like the girls all the varsity runners finished in the top 11 with Tyler Boeckman, leading the way finishing first for the second straight meet with a time of 17:52 this time. Redhawks would then take four of the next five spots in the race behind Tyler, starting with Baxter Defore finishing third, Conner Winters placing fourth, Cody Bird coming in fifth and Mitchell Williams registering a sixth place finish. Truman Miller rounded out the varsity performances for the Redhawks finishing eleventh on the day. With all those top performances the boys registered 13 team total points good for first place as a team.

The Redhawk junior varsity, also saw some stellar performances with three runners finishing in the top 18 runners overall in the boys competition.

Overall the Redhawks dominated the headlines in the Falls City Invitational coming away with four first places on the day. Hiawatha now turns their eyes to the Big Seven League meet this coming week.
