Twin Valley League Track Teams Highlight Republic County Lower Division Invite

Seven Twin Valley League teams took to action in track and field on Tuesday as part of the Republic County Invitational with three other teams and it was the TVL teams highlighting the meet.

On the girls side the Linn Bulldogs came out on top dominating the competition with 117 total points, finishing 43.5 points ahead of second place, Pike Valley. Valley Heights rounded out the top three and was followed by multiple other TVL teams as Clifton-Clyde took fourth and B&B finished fifth as a team. The rest of the team finishes were: 6th - Hanover, 7th - Axtell, 8th - Rock Hills, 9th - Blue Valley-Randolph and 10th - Tescott.

For the boys it was the TVL taking home the top four team performances on the day as Valley Heights captured the meet title by 10 points with 108 points, taking first over Linn who took second and Axtell, finished third. Rounding out the top five was Hanover in fourth place and no-area school Tescott took fifth place. The rest of the team finishes were: 6th - Clifton-Clyde, 7th - Pike Valley, 8th - Blue Valley-Randolph, 9th - Rock Hills and 10th - B&B.

The Linn Bulldogs with their two top three team finishes grabbed the most first place finishes on the day, notching nine golds in events. Both Kurt Van Der Mewe and Grant Cook each won a pair of events for Linn on the day. Kurt sprinted his way to wins the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.21 and 22.52, while Cook tossed his way to wins in the javelin and discus behind tosses of 161'06 and 129'03, respectively. Chad Gross and the Bulldogs 4x100 meter relay team also picked up wins, too. Gross leapt his way to the win in the high jump (6'04) and the 4x100 team (Chad Diederich, Micah Dieckmann, Chad Gross and Kurt Van Der Mewe) posted a time of 44.99 to finish first. On the girls side Linn was led by four first place finishes on their way to first as a team. Hannah Bott and Acacia Thalmann each won field events capturing first in the javelin (110'08) and high jump (5'02), respectively. While on the track Nicole Ohlde and the Bulldogs 4x400 meter relay team (Rachel Bott, Nicole Ohlde, Kesiah Thalmann and Kendra Bargman) earned wins. Ohlde took home gold in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:45.50, while the 4x400 team posted a time of 4:21.27 to grab the win.

Valley Heights had the second most first place finishes at the Republic Invite from the area with eight gold’s combined by the boys and girls. Brandi Jo Roepke, Sidney Blackburn and Elijah Smith all won multiple events on the day. Roepke picked up three gold’s as she raced her way to wins in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.93 and 26.07, while winning the long jump also with a leap of 15'10. Blackburn tossed her way to wins in the shot put (36'03.50) and discus (103'06) in the field. While, Smith leapt his way to a pair of wins in the triple jump (46'00) and long jump (20'10) in the field events. Derek Trimble joined his fellow Mustangs with a gold medal as he vaulted his way to win in the pole vault (11'00).

Axtell, Clifton-Clyde and Hanover each had three gold medal performances on the day at the Republic County Invitational.

For the the Axtell Eagles the boys and girls 4x800 meter relay teams both posted the best times of the day to win. The team of Anna Buessing, Ashley Buessing, Kiersten Talbot and Courtney Heinen posted a time of 11:19.14 to win the 4x800, while the boys team of Christian Buessing, Colton Buessing, Tracy Schmitz and Zach Heine posted a time of 9:00.29 to win the 4x800. Schmitz added to his day also winning the 3200 meter run by running a time of 10:45.48.

Clifton-Clyde was led by the performance of William Ohlde on the day who swept the hurdles winning the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.76 and 39.86. While in the girls competition Elizabeth Nobert grabbed a first place for Clifton-Clyde by winning the 300 meter hurdles (50.06).

Hanover earned all three of their first place showings on the day in the boy’s competition getting wins in the 4x400 meter relay, shot put and 400 meter dash. The Wildcat team of Trey Loshe, Will Bruna, Austin Diederich and Evan Zabokrtsky posted a time of 3:45.88 to win the 4x400 meter relay. While, Ethan Fritschi and Preston Jueneman won the shot put (44'09) and 400 meter dash (52.16), respectively for the Wildcats.

Blue Valley-Randolph and B&B also competed at the meet and each finished with at least one first place finisher on the day. For the Rams, Georgia Hatesohl took home the 100 meter hurdles title (17.51) while Chase Carey won the 1600 meter run on the boy’s side (5:06.65). For B&B, Samanatha Wessel captured the triple jump title with a leap of 33'02.75.
