Atchison Boys Tennis Had Strong Showing in Doubles Competition at the DeSoto Classic

It was a beautiful afternoon on Tuesday and great weather for action on the tennis courts and Atchison took to the courts to compete in the Desoto Classic.

The Redmen's top performances on the day came in the doubles competition as the tandem of Wade Gassmann and Spencer Walker put together a 3-0 day in doubles #1 competition and the group of Karl Dolenz and Colton Weinmann went 2-1 in the doubles #2 competition. Gassmann and Walker topped the Lansing team with ease winning 8-2, but were tested against the Ottawa and DeSoto teams but came out on top 8-7 (10-8) and 8-7 (9-8), respectively. For Dolenz and Weinmann they earned a 8-6 win over the Ottawa team and topped the Lansing tandem 8-3 for their two wins, but fell to the DeSoto team 8-5 in their matchup.

In the singles competition both Jason Defisher and Lance Ernzen competed for the Redmen each going 0-3 on the day at the DeSoto Classic. Defisher fell 3-8 to Ottawa, 1-8 to DeSoto and 0-8 to Lansing, while Ernzen lost 3-8 to Ottawa, 2-8 to DeSoto and 2-8 to Lansing.

Atchison continues their tennis season on Friday when they travel to St. Joseph to compete in the Lafayette Tournament.
