Eight Area Athletes Earn KSCA All-Class Softball Honors

The 2014 high school softball season saw plenty of great competition between all the area teams in Northeast Kansas and three teams made the State tournament.

With many great team seasons there were plenty of top flight individual performances and eight area softball players were named to the Kansas Softball Coaches Association All-Class teams this year.

Five girls earned Class 4A, All-Class honors by KSCA led by Jeff West Tiger junior, Olivia Brees who earned first team All-Class 4A honors at pitcher after helping the Tigers finish the season 21-2 and make the 4A-DII State tournament where they finished third. Tigers also won the Big Seven League title this year.

Four area girls earned second team All-Class 4A honors as three Holton Wildcats and an Atchison Lady Redmen grabbed the honors. Holton wrapped up their season 16-5 on the year and seniors, Cassidy Merriman and Emmy McManigal earned second team All-Class at infield and utility, while freshman, Ashlyn Weilert grabbed second team honors at outfield. Atchison senior, Lizzie Walz garnered second team All-Class 4A honors at infield as the Redmen wrapped up the season 9-11 this year.

Three other area softball players earned All-Class honor all coming in Class 2-1A and all from McLouth. Both senior, Konner Patterson and sophomore, Dominique Tullis each earned first team All-Class 2-1A honors at infield and outfield, respectively, while their sophomore teammate, Shannon Greene earned second team honors at infield. McLouth finished the season as Regional champs and mad the State tournament, finishing the year 17-5.
