Six Area Athletes Set to Compete in KBCA All-Star Game on Saturday

Six area senior athletes from six different area schools are set to competition in the annual KBCA All-Star competition this Saturday June 28th at 6:00pm at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. The girl's game will be up first at 6:00pm with the boys game to follow.

B&B Falcon, Laura Sudbeck, JCN Charger, Jacee Kramer and Holton Wildcat, Kyrstie Miller will all play in the annual KBCA All-Star game on the girls side from the area, while B&B girls coach, Roger Schmelzle will serve as an assistant coach in the game.

For the boy's, Nemaha Valley Raider, Caleb Meyer, Centralia Panther, Sam Steinlage and Royal Valley Panther, Skyler Link will all represent the area in the annual KBCA All-Star game in the boys matchup.

Laura enjoyed a stellar senior season in the final year of B&B high school she helped guide the Lady Falcons to the Class 1A-Division II State title in basketball finishing 24-3 on the season and topping Golden Plains in the title game, 59-40. Sudbeck earned first team All-State honors from the KBCA after posting 11.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.3 apg and 2.1 spg this past year and shooting 45.1% from the floor and 41.5% from three-point land. The Falcon senior, also earned multiple All-State honors and first team All-Twin Valley League and plans on continuing her athletic career in volleyball, a sport she won three State titles with her B&B teammates, at Cloud County.

Jacee goes down as one of the best scorers in the State not only this year but in her career as she totaled over 2,000 career points, finishing her high school basketball career 17th in the State in career points.  She helped guide her team back to the Class 2A State tournament again this season and the Chargers wrapped up their season 25-1 with a runner-up finish in 2A and won the NEKL title during the year. Kramer on the season posted 23.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.3 spg and 3.6 apg on her way to first team All-State honors by the KBCA and multiple other publications on top of being named to the Top Five of any class by the Topeka Capital Journal. Kramer plans on continuing her basketball career at Emporia State next season as part of the Hornets team.

Joining her at Emporia State next year will be Holton Wildcat senior, Kyrstie Miller who will continue her basketball career as a Lady Hornet, too. Miller enjoyed a solid senior season with her Holton teammates helping the team to a 17-8 record and third place performance at State in Class 4A-DII. On the season Miller posted a double-double average with 15 ppg and 10 rpg, while adding 7.8 spg and 1.8 bpg earning second team All-State by the KBCA and other publications and first team All-Big Seven.

Both Miller and Sudbeck will suit up for the White team, that will be a familiar face on the sideline for Sudbeck as her coach, Roger Schmelzle will be an assistant coach in the contest for the White team after leading to the Lady Falcons to 24-3 record and 1A-DII State title in their final year. Kramer will play opposite her soon to be Emporia Hornet teammate in Miller as she will suit up for the Blue team.

For the boys, Nemaha Valley Raider Caleb Meyer enjoyed a great senior campaign that finished with the Raiders claiming third place in the Class 3A State tournament and finishing 23-3 on the year. Meyer helped guide the Raiders to third place with big games on the State level posting 23 points and 12 rebounds in the 57-51 win over Riverton for third place and notching 31 points in the opening round win over Holcomb, while setting 3A record for most free throws made in a game at State going 17-20 in the first round win. Caleb earned second team All-State honors by the KBCA and was named first team All-Big Seven League, wrapping up his Raider career with a great senior year. He plans on continuing his basketball career next year at Cloud County Communtiy College.

Centralia Panther, Sam Steinlage lead the Panthers to a 17-7 record and finished just short of a trip to the State tournament this year falling to Valley Heights in the Sub-State championship. While the Panthers missed out on the State tournament for Steinlage and copy he was part of Panthers 2-1A State Champion football team and 1A boy's track State Champions teams in his senior year, while going to State the previous two years with Centralia in basketball. Sam earned first team All-Twin Valley League honors his senior year and second team All-State by KBCA. Steinlage is set to continue his athletic career next year at Washburn University as he will play football.

Royal Valley Panther, Skyler Link will also suit up in the annual KBCA All-Star game after finishing his senior year at Royal Valley with the Panthers going 10-12, while Link was named All-Big Seven League. Link as a senior was the only Panther to average over 10 points per game, posting 13.4 ppg, while grabbing 2.9 rpg, 2.3 apg and 1.5 spg. Link plans on continuing his basketball career next year at the college level playing for Labette County Community College.

Link will suit up for the White team in competition at the KBCA All-Star game, while both Meyer and Steinlage will be teammates on the Blue team, as the boys matchup will follow the girls competition that starts at 6:00pm.

Six great players that enjoyed great athletic careers through high school will showcase their basketball skills another time representing their high schools as part of the KBCA All-Star game this Saturday June 28th at 6:00pm, at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
