Peru State College (PSC) Athletic Director Steve Schneider has announced that cross country runner Sarah Williams (Hiawatha, Kan.) and football player Ryan Ludlow (Plattsmouth) have been selected as the Bobcat Athletes of the Month for September.
Williams was selected as Peru State's Athlete of the Month because she was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for three consecutive weeks.  Her first HAAC CC Runner of the Week honor came following her performance at the Northwest Missouri University Bearcat Invitational where Williams finished fourth in a time of 23:34 in a 6K race.  Williams outran her nearest NAIA competitor by nearly 90 seconds.
Then, on Sept. 15, Williams finished 33rd out of 289 runners from all levels of competition, including NCAA Division I, in the Woody Greeno Invitational held at Pioneers Park in Lincoln.  Williams cut 30 seconds off her time she had run the previous week in a 6K meet and was the third-highest NAIA competitor.  The following week, Williams won the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane College in Crete, Neb.  Williams ran the 5K course in 18:55 to win by 42 seconds.

Ludlow earned the September honor for his efforts so far in the football season.  In the Bobcats' first win of the year, Ludlow exploded for 204 yards on 14 carries and had two touchdowns.  Ludlow was the first PSC runner to eclipse the 200-yard mark in a single game for at least ten years and was the most by a HAAC player since Tommy Meyer of Evangel ran for 207 yards against Avila during the 2010 season.

Presently, Ludlow has 14 touchdowns on the season, which puts him second for the most touchdowns in a single season behind Bobcat Hall of Famer Alvin Holder, who finished the 1980 campaign with 17.  Ludlow currently leads the NAIA in four categories – total scoring (TDs) (84), scoring (TDs) per game (14.00), total scoring (84), and scoring per game (84).  Ludlow is third in the NAIA in rushing yards per game (136.5) and total rushing yards (819).  In the HAAC, Ludlow leads in all six categories.

AD Schneider said, “Sarah and Ryan are deserving of the first athlete of the month recognition for 2012-13.  We hope they continue to have the success they experienced in September throughout the rest of their respective seasons.
