Nine Area Athlete's Compete In Kansas Shrine Bowl Festivities Over Weekend

The annual Kansas Shrine Bowl fesitivies took place over the weekend in Pittsburg, Kansas with nine area athletes competing in the cross country race and football contest on the East teams.

In the football game it would be the West getting the best of the East claiming the 21-6 win and improving to 26-14-1 all-time in the Shrine Bowl game. The West started the scoring in the game notching a field goal and saftey to hold a 5-0, lead until just a little over minute before halftime the East struck with the first touchdown of the game to hold a 6-5 lead at the half.

The second half all the scoring came from the West as they connected on a pair of touchdowns and added their second field goal of the game, also to gain the 21-6 win. West took the game and dominated the stats outgaining the East 303 to 193 total yards of offense.

Five area athletes competed on the the East team who took the loss as JT Rosine of Centralia, Dustin Rottinghaus of B&B, Jake Reiderer of Holton, Nick McAferty of McLouth and Brandon Eddy of Perry Lecompton competed in the action. Eddy posted five tackles for the East defense, while Rottinghaus notched four tackles, on offense McAferty was the only area player to post yards finishing with one catch for four yards.

In the cross country race four area athletes were set to compete from Northeast Kansas as Adam Koch and Keith Huddleston of Frankfort, Josh Ballenger of Wetmore and Lexia Jamison of Perry Lecompton were on the East team for the 2-mile race.
