Highland CC Volleyball Opens Season 1-3 at Southeast Tournament

The volleyball season got underway for the Highland Community College Lady Scotties over the weekend as they opened up action in the Southeast Tournament in Beatrice, Nebraska and came home with a 1-3 record in their four contests.

Scotties opened play back on Friday, August 22nd and took on Cloud County CC and Southeast CC falling 3-0 and 3-1 in each competition, respectively. Highland responded by splitting their final two matches of the tournament beating Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 3-1, with great contributions from Kanzaland area athletes as former Centralia Panther, Kaitlyn Koch had 11 kills, while former Holton Wildcat, Haley Jacobs notched nine kills and former Riverside Cyclone, Alisha Simonin came up with 23 digs in the contest. HCC fell 3-0 in their other matchup on Saturday, August 23rd to Northeast CC.

Koch and Briley Ware (Arkansas City, KS) led the way for the Scotties on the offensive end each registering 26 kills during the Tournament, while Leah Rader (Joplin, MO) posted 24 kills. Koch added eight blocks and six digs to line during the first four games of the season. Ware and Rader added 10 and nine blocks to help lead the Scotties. Jacobs notched 18 kills and six digs for Highland, while Simonin leads the team in digs posting 57 during the Tournament, while Michaela Serrioz (Gardner, KS) 26 digs and Megan Lockwood (Silver Lake, KS) posted 38.

Scotties now turn their attention to KJCCC league play as they play host to Independence CC this Wednesday, August 27th at 5:30pm to continue the season.
