Sabetha Girls Tennis Open the Season Taking First at Wamego Invite

The Sabetha Bluejays flew high to start the girl’s tennis season as they claimed first place in the Wamego Invitational behind a pair of first place double finishes, along with a second and third place in singles competitions.

Sabetha opened the season continue to build momentum from a solid season last year and it was the doubles tandems pacing the way for the Bluejays. The duo of Jordyn Wells and Alex Menold competed in the doubles competition number one and went 4-0 to take first. Wells and Menold took down Atchison and Wabaunsee teams with 6-1 scores and beat Topeka High and Wamego 6-2 in both of those matches. In doubles competition number two the tandem of Abby Manning and Lindsey Chadwell also put together a 4-0 day. Manning and Chadwell won 6-0 versus Atchison, 6-1 against Topeka High, 6-2 opposite of Wamego and had their closest match versus Wabaunsee claiming the 6-4 win.

In singles competition Courtney Plattner posted a 3-1 day finishing second in singles number two competition, while Lexi Wenger finished third in singles competition number one going 2-2. Plattner won 6-0 versus Wamego competitor, 6-1 against Atchison and claimed the 6-2 win versus Wabaunsee, with her lone loss coming against the Topeka High competitor who took first in singles number two. For Wenger she picked up wins against Atchison and Wabaunsee winning both matches with 6-1 scores, while falling 6-1 to Wamego and Topeka High competitors.

The Bluejays look to build upon the early season success in their first competition and take flight again on the tennis court on Thursday, September 4th in the Hayden Invitational.
