Ravens Soar over Jackson Heights, Move to 2-0 on the Season
By Jonny Kane

In a battle of two Northeast Kansas League teams on Friday night it was the Ravens of Maur Hill-Mount Academy using a balanced rushing attack and solid defense to bring home a big 42-0 win over Jackson Heights

The first drive of the game belonged to the Cobras who elected to receive after winning the coin toss and put together a great first drive to begin the ballgame. Jackson Heights was able to run the football extremely well getting deep into Raven territory but a fourth  down stop gave the ball to the Ravens for their first drive of the game.

The Ravens first drive was a lot like the Cobras in the sense of nothing but hard nosed running with Harry Trotter eventually finding the endzone from sixyards out on the 14th play of the drive to put Maur Hill-Mount Academy on the scoreboard and an extra point from Chris Falk gave the Ravens a 7-0 lead heading into the 2nd quarter.

Jackson Heights had the ball to begin the 2nd quarter but the Raven defense got an interception by Nick Caudle which gave the football right back to Maur Hill-Mount Academy. The second drive was the same as the first for the Ravens as they used the run game to quickly move down the field and inside the Cobra 10-yard line. On second and goal the Ravens finally went to a play action pass and it worked to perfection with Josh Caudle finding Luke Ervin from six yards out giving them a 14-0 lead after an extra point by Falk once again.

On the ensuing kickoff, Korby Strube received the kick and went along the left sideline but was hit by the Ravens David Olberding and fumbled giving the football right back to Maur Hill-Mount Academy. They wasted no time on this drive as it only took 90 seconds for Trotter to earn his second rushing touchdown on the evening this time from 13 yards out putting the Ravens on top by three scores with just four minutes to go in the half.

The Ravens then forced a quick three-and-out by the Cobras with a chance to put more points on the board right before the break. This time the Ravens came out in the spread and moved the ball through the air and with 22 seconds left in the half Josh Caudle found his brother Nick for a 29 yard touchdown and a four score lead heading into intermission.

Since Jackson Heights elected to receive the opening kickoff the Ravens would have the first possession of the 3rd quarter and they wasted no time putting more points on the scoreboard.  On the first play from scrimmage Trotter got the hand off to the left side and went the distance going 70 yards for the score, his third of the game.

A running clock was then put into action and after another three-and-out by the Cobras, Maur Hill-Mount Academy got their final touchdown of the ballgame as Josh connected with Nick once again from five yards out and that proved to be it giving the Ravens the big 42-0 win.

For the Ravens the charge was lead by Junior Harry Trotter who finished the ballgame with 176 yard on 15 carries and three touchdowns. Josh Caudle was 4-5 on passing with three touchdowns and two of them coming to his brother Nick. Maur Hill-Mount Academy moves to 2-0 on the season and will turn their attention to Ellis who the Ravens will host next week.

It was tough sledding once again for the Cobras as they battle low numbers and the loss of many key players to graduation. Jackson Heights moves to 0-2 on the season and will travel to McLouth next week to take on the Bulldogs.
