(KTNC)--The Falls City Tigers roared back from a loss to Ashland-Greenwood with a convincing 60-12 win over a young Douglas County West squad Friday night at Jug Brown Stadium.

The Tigers wasted little time, getting out to a big lead early. Falls City kicked off to start the game, and the Falcons returned the opening kick-off to thier 40 yard line. But on the first play from scrimmage, Tiger sophomore Zayne Heckenlively stepped in front of a Nolan Weiss pass to give Falls City possession at the 39 yard line. Three plays later, Tiger quarterback Jack Hartman scored the first of five first quarter touchdowns for the Tiges on a 20 yard run. Falls City led 8-0 less than 90 seconds into the game.

After the ensuing kick-off, DC West senior tailback Roger O'Dell funbled, and Falls City recovered at the Falcon 37 yard line. It took just two plays for the Tigers to find the endzone, as Hartman connected with Zach Jordening on a 35 yard scoring pass. Tigers 16-0 with still 9:35 to play in the first quarter.

Still in the first quarter, Falls City took possession on their own 23 yard line. Hartman found Luke Kirkendall on a short pass, and Kirkendall ran the ball inside the Falcon ten yard line, where Brenden Heckenlively carried the ball in on the next play, for the first of his three TD runs in the game.

Heckenlively then connected with Jordy Stoller on a 53 yard touchdown pass and scored on a three-yard run late in the first quarter to give Falls City a 40-0 lead after the first 12 minutes.

The Tiges added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, on a 23 yard Brenden Heckenlively run and a 30 yard run by Bradly Rose, to take a 54-0 lead into the halftime locker room.

In the second half, playing with a running clock, DC West got on the board with eight minutes to go in the third quarter on a nifty 55 yard run by O'Dell, who finished with 150 yards rushing in the game.

Bradly Rose gave the Tigers one more touchdown, on a 57 yard burst up the middle late in the third quarter. Rose led the Tigers with 102 yards rushing on just three carries.

DC West added one more score in the fourth quarter for the 60-12 final score.

The Tigers spread the offense around. For the game, Falls City racked up 274 yards rushing, with 14 players getting at least one carry and none more than 5. Jack Hartman and Brenden Heckenlively combined to complete 5 of 6 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The five receptions were to five different receivers.

The win moves Falls City to 3-1 on the season, while DC West falls to 1-3. The Tiges travel to Auburn to take on the Bulldogs Friday night.

The Homecoming royalty was crowned during an extended halftime ceremony. Tucker Merz was crowned the Homecoming King and Sydney Prichard was crowned the Homecoming Queen.
