Nine Schools in Latest Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings

Latest Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings (9-21) -- click here

The cross country season continues to roll along with great performances by area teams and individuals very meet with area teams. With those top notch performances area teams continue to get attention in the latest Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association rankings released on September 21st.

Nine area teams find themselves ranked in the latest polls from 4A through 1A. Class 1A highlights the polls for the area as four teams are in the latest rankings. On the boys side three Twin Valley League teams are in the polls with Frankfort leading the way at number #3 moving up one spot from the previous poll. The Wildcats had a pair of Top 20 finishers at the Onaga Invite recently including a second place finish, while placing fourth as a team. The Wetmore Cardinals and Valley Heights Mustangs are also ranked in the latest polls, as Wetmore remained at #6 and the Mustangs jumped into the polls at #7. Wetmore most recently placed fifth as a team at the Onaga Invite with a pair of Top 20 finishers on the day, while Valley Heights had a fourth place finisher at the same competition. The Axtell Eagle boys are also getting attention in the others receiving votes category.

While on the girl's side the Axtell Eagles jumped up in the latest rankings to a tie for #4, after finishing with a pair of Top 20 finishers at the Onaga Invite, including a third place performance. The Centralia lady Panthers are also getting attention in the latest cross country poll as they are in the other receiving vote’s category.

Class 2A, houses a pair of area teams in the rankings with the Washington County Tiger boy's leading the way as they check in at #3 in the latest polls. The Tigers in their most recent action was in the Onaga Invitational in which they claimed first place as a team and had the best individual performance on the day, also while having seven runners finish in the Top 30. The lady Tigers are getting attention, too as they are in the others category in the girl's 2A poll, while the Jefferson County North lady Chargers are ranked at #6.

In Class 3A, it's Hiawatha and Pleasant Ridge highlighting the latest rankings as the Red Hawks girls and boys teams both rank third in the latest polls, down one spot from the previous rankings. Red Hawks recently posted first and second place team showings by the girls and boys at their home meet with an individual first and third place leading the way, respectively. For the Pleasant Ridge Rams, the boys’ team finds themselves in the rankings at #2, after a fourth place team performance at the McLouth Invite with two Top 10 finishers. The Pleasant Ridge girls are also getting attention along with the girls teams from Sabetha and ACCHS who are all in the others category, just on the outside looking in on the rankings.

While no area team has broken into the rankings in Class 4A, the Atchison lady Redman have jumped into the others category after a second place team finish at the Hiawatha Invitational recently.

The cross country season rolls along this week with meets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday involving area teams.
