Troy Trojans headed to Onaga to take on the Buffaloes on Friday night and behind the passing game and Onaga turnovers the Trojans picked up their third win of the season, topping Onaga 38-3.

Onaga started with the ball deep in their own territory to open the game, but on the first play the option play went array and Troy pounced on a fumble and two plays later, got on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run by Derek Franken. After a failed two-point conversion it was 6-0, Troy with the early lead.

The Buffaloes looking for an answer, mounted a drive in first quarter, getting into Trojan territory before being stopped around the 20-yard line, when they decided to go for a 35-yard field goal and Wyatt Cordell split the uprights to make it a 6-3 game and it was that mark going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter the Trojans padded their lead cruising down the field, behind the pass game and quarterback, Tristan Speer slung his first of four touchdown passes in the game to Collin Jasper with 6:44 to go in the first half and with the two-point conversion successful on a Jake Ross run, the Trojans led 14-3. Onaga again looked to answer, putting together a solid drive getting into the Redzone but the Buffaloes gave up the ball with their second fumble of the game and Troy took over again.

Trojans struck again in the first half as Speer flung the ball around getting a big play from Cuttar Huss on a bubble screen that Huss busted off for 71-yards, leading to the third touchdown of the game for Troy as Speer found Ross for nine yards for the score with 3:09 to go in the first half and with the two-point conversion Troy held the 22-3 led and headed to the half with that cushion.

In the second half both team’s offenses started slow but Onaga had another opportunity in the Redzone but it again was spoiled by a fumble the third of the game by the Buffaloes. For Troy they ate up the clock with a run-pass balance in the second half and broke through to score again with 2:46 left in the third quarter as Speer hit Huss for a nine yard touchdown and Huss ran in the two-point conversion to make it 30-3. Trojans added another with five minutes to go in the game as Speer found Ross for a 24-yard strike for Tristan's fourth touchdown pass in the game, giving the Trojans the ultimate 38-3 victory.

While, both teams were hurt by penalties in the game it was the Troy Trojans able to move the ball with consistency, outgaining Onaga 378 to 153 total yards of offense, while the Buffalos had three turnovers. Speer paced the Trojans going 16-24 for 217 yards and four touchdowns whil rushing for 47 yards on eight carries, earning him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. Ross nabbed seven passes for 84 yards and two scores, while Huss added five catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. Franken led the Trojans rushing attack with 50 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, helping Troy improve to 3-1 on the season.
