After Four Weeks of the Kansas High School Football Season, Three Area Teams Highlight Rankings

Four weeks of action is in the books for high school football in the State of Kansas and many area teams area enjoying strong starts to the season, while some are looking to right the ship and get ready for the second portion of the season with District play looming and starting up for the small divisions in Kansas.

As we head into week five action across the State three area teams continue to highlight the rankings across the State, while many more continue to garner attention in the polls across the State.

In Class 4A-Division II the Holton Wildcats continue to remain ranked with their 3-1 start to the season, fresh off a 61-6 rout of Hiawatha in week four. The Wildcats check in at #2 in the VarsityKansas, Kansasprepfootball.com and Topeka Capital Journal polls, while coming in at #3 in the latest Kpreps poll. While, no other 4A-DII area team is getting attention in the latest polls, the Atchison Redmen are gaining attention in Class 4A-Division I, after their 4-0 start to the season. The Redmen cruised past KC Harmon 55-12 in week four.

Class 3A the Centralia Panthers have been ranked at #5 in the Topeka Capital Journal poll the last few weeks and remain their this week, while also checking in at #5 in the latest Kansasprepfootball.com. The Panthers are in the others category for both the Kpreps and VarsityKansas polls as Centralia is off to a 4-0 start this season after a 42-0 win over Doniphan West in week four. Five other area teams are getting some attention in at least one poll across the State in Class 3A as Horton, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, McLouth, Oskaloosa and Nemaha Central. Four of those teams are off to a perfect start to the season as Horton is 3-0 after a 44-0 rout of Jefferson County North in week four, Maur Hill beat Valley Falls 16-14 to remain unbeaten at 4-0, while Oskaloosa beat Jackson Heights 22-20 to improve to 4-0 and Nemaha Central beat up on ACCHS for a 41-12 win to move to 4-0. McLout suffered their first loss of the season last week falling to Royal Valley 29-12, but are 3-1 on the year.

The Troy Trojans are the only area team that continues to get attention in the polls in Class 2-1A as the Trojans picked up a 38-3 road win over Onaga in week four to move to 3-1 on the season.

At the 8-Man level the Hanover Wildcats continue to dominate their opponents early in the season as the Wildcats are 4-0 after a 50-0 rout of Blue Valley-Randolph in week four and are ranked #1 in every poll across the State.

Week five brings District play for many 2-1A and 8-Man teams, while other classes continue with League play and non-league matchups before District play in the coming weeks.
