Five TVL Schools Sending Runners to 1A State Cross Country Meet After Regional Performances

The gun sounded on Saturday at Leonardville golf course to signal the start of competition for Regional cross country race and at the end of competition in Class 1A, five area schools will be sending at least one runner to the State competition.

The top three teams go to compete at State as teams and a pair of area squads will be doing so in both the girl's and boy's 1A competition. On the girl's side Centralia raced to a first place team performance, posting 18 points with four Top 12 performances. While, Pike Valley took second place by just one point over Axtell who finished third as a team. On the boy's side of competition it was Pike Valley claiming the Regional title, while Frankfort and Valley Heights finished second and third qualifying for State as teams. The Mustangs just edged out Axtell for third, claiming the bronze by two points.

Leading the way for the Centralia lady Panthers on their way to the Regional title was Sadie Jones who raced to a second place finish with a time of 17:23.14. While her teammates finished seventh, eighth, 12th and 25th on the day to finish of the Panthers performances. Kaitlyn Becker placed seventh behind a time of 19:07.10, while Madison Boeckman finished eighth with a time of 19:11.18. Hayley Ross placed 12th (20:28.60) and Julee Tryon finished 25th. In the boys race, freshman, Dylan Boeckman raced his way to qualifying for State as an individual, after finishing seventh with a time of 19:01.15.

For the Axtell girl's freshman, Chelsea Smith and senior, Susan Peschel paced the way to help the team qualify for State as Smith posted a time of 19:32.39 and Peschel a time of 19:53.45 to finish ninth and 10th, respectively. Alexis Werner and Paige Menninga rounded out the lady Eagles team performance placing 15th (21:13.92) and 19th (22:30.66), respectively. In the boys race, while the team finished qualifying for State by just two points, a pair of individuals did qualify for State as Burke Deters and Oliver Schmitz placed third and 10th on the day with times of 18:39.56 and 19:21.00, respectively.

The Frankfort boys on their way to a second place team performance were led by the performance of freshman, Brodric Shirley who raced his way to second place with a time of 18:24.92. Alex Reoder joined him in the Top 10, finishing ninth after posting a time of 19:15.27, while their teammates Rylen Bailey, Noah Suther and Jacob Studer finished 17th (20:52.47), 18th (21:05.91) and 19th (21:12.69), respectively. Sheldon Parthemer and Jaron Thomas also ran for the Wildcats at Regionals placing 27th and 29th, respectively. Amburley Kokoruda also qualified for State in the girl’s race, after a 13th place finish with a time of 20:31.17.

Valley Heights raced their way to third place as a team in the boys competition with Adrian Pishny leading the way with his fourth place finish, posting a time of 18:50.16. Alex Hardin and Devin Crumbley both finished in the Top 20 placing 14th (20:05.73) and 20th (21:16.54), respectively; while Max Blaske, Anthony Edwards and Josh Gartner placed 23rd, 28th and 41st. Ilexus Rose raced her way into the State competition with a Top 10 individual performance in the girl's race finishing fifth with a time of 18:41.27.

Wetmore Cardinal sophomore, Aaron Achten also qualified for State after finishing sixth in the boys competition with a time of 18:53.22.

Clifton-Clyde, Doniphan West and Hanover also had runners compete on Saturday at Regionals.

All the area runners that qualified for State in Class 1A now turn their attention to the State competition on November 1st at Wamego Country Club.
