JCN & Washington County With Top Area Team Performances at 2A Cross Country Regionals While Three Schools Sending Individuals to State

Cedar Hills golf course was the site of the Class 2A cross country Regional involving all the area teams and several of them finished with top notch performances to have runners qualify for the State competition.

It was the host Washington County and Jefferson County North highlighting the team performances as both the boy's and girl's for each school notched Top three finishes to qualify for State. The Washington County Tiger boys posted a score of 23 behind their Top five runners all finishing in the Top 20 on the day. Republic County finished second and JCN tallied a third place performance just three points behind Republic County. In the girl's race it was Republic County claiming the top spot, while JCN finished second and Washington County place third.

Leading the charge for the Washington County Tigers was the running of senior, Dylan Hodgson who posted a time of 16:37.92 to win the Regional boys title by nearly a 1:30. His teammates Eric Miller and Kyle McGatlin both grabbed fourth and fifth place behind times of 18:27.80 and 18:35.60, while Joe Stegman placed 13th (19:07.27) and Jefferson Simmons rounded out the team score placing 20th (19:50.19). Wyatt Durst and Martin Walter placed 22nd and 30th for the Tigers, also. In the girl's competition on their way to third as a time the lady Tigers were led by Madison Stone who finished 15th (19:40.57), while Kiresten Kingsbury raced to 18th place (19:50.17) and Cheyanne Helms finished 20th (19:54.68). Ashley Davis, Linda Saylor, Andrea Bruna and Rachel Wood finished 34th, 36th, 46th and 48th, respectively.

The JCN lady Chargers were led by Carissa McAfee on their way to a second place team performance as she posted a time of 17:03.67, while Jacinta Priest was the only other lady Charger to finish in the Top 20 placing 17th with a time of 19:47.78. Kayla Hutzell, Savannah Lane and Maggie Sharp finishes 23rd, 31st and 44th to finish out the lady Chargers team score. Brysen Weishaar paced the JCN boys on their way to third place as a team, as Weishaar placed sixth with a time of 18:35.96. Alvin Sharp finished 16th (19:24.24), while Thomas Steichen finished 18th (19:44.71) for two more Top 20 finishes for the Chargers. Rounding out the rest of the JCN finishes was Evan Weishaar, Tyler Nolting and Lane Fowler finished 23rd, 33rd and 40th, respectively.

The best area girl's performance and best girl's performance at Regionals came from Jackson Heights Cobra, Kaitlynn Little who raced to a time of 16:45.70 to claim the Regional title, to qualify for State.

While the Onaga Buffaloes have four runners headed to State with two Top 10 performers in both the boys and girls race. Michael Eisenbarth and Luke Marten placed third and eighth, respectively with times of 18:16.32 and 18:45.59. While in the girl’s competition Maggie Revell and Alexis VanDonge are both headed to State as they finished fourth and 10th with times of 17:40.78 and 18:45.71.

McLouth will also be sending multiple runners to Class 2A State competition as Ceara Funk finished ninth (18:37.39) in the girl’s race and Ryan Bristol and Tristan Funk raced to ninth (18:56.14) and 10th (18:56.14) place finishes in the boys race.

Valley Falls and Troy also each had competitors compete at Regionals at Cedar Hills golf course.

All the area runners that qualified for State in Class 2A now turn their attention to the State competition on November 1st at Wamego Country Club.
