Everything was already locked in place for the Axtell Eagles on Thursday night as far as the playoffs go after wrapping up the District title the previous week, but they looked to finish the regular season with a win and took on Linn on the road.

The Eagles wasted little time taking control of the shorthanded Linn Bulldogs and cruised to the 50-0 win ending the game at halftime. Axtell received the opening kickoff and scored on the possession as junior quarterback, Colton Buessing busted off a 44-yard run and found pay-dirt, giving Axtell the 6-0 early advantage.

Things continued to roll the Eagles way as they continually stopped the Linn Bulldogs and made the plays on offense with senior, Tyler Jones running in a pair scores and Shane Talbot picked off a Chase McGatlin pass from Linn and took it back for another touchdown, making it 26-0 after the first quarter of action.

The shorthanded Bulldogs saw their quarterback McGatlin go out in the second quarter and ultimately not return, while the Eagles went up 34-0 on Jones third rushing touchdown. Buessing and Kaleb Buessing added a touchdown pass each to cap off the game at the half, as Colton hit Adam Kuckelman for a 33-yard score and Kaleb found Jacob Meybrunn for a six-yard score and the 50-0 win.

In the victory Colton Buessing was 9-10 for 165 yards and a touchdown, with 98 yards on six carries and a touchdown earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Jones added 39 yards on seven carries with three scores; while Kuckelman caught three passes for 77 yards as Axtell had 295 yards of total offense. With the win the Eagles improved to 7-2 on the season and finished District play a perfect 5-0.

For Linn the Bulldogs only managed 48-yards of total offense with sophomore, Josh Schmitz accounting for 33 yards on nine carries. The Bulldogs finished their football season with a 4-5 record for the second straight year.

For the Axtell Eagles their attention now turns to the 8-Man Division II playoffs which start on Tuesday, as the Eagles will host the opening round and are set to play Sylvan-Lucas Unified who were District runner-ups in District two.
