Twelve Area Girl's Named to KVA 2014 State All Tournament Teams

The volleyball season came to a close over the weekend and for the sixth straight year at least one area team earned a State title, with two teams claiming State titles this year and two more bring home third place trophies. With so many great performances 12 area athletes from those four teams earned State All-Tournament team honors by the Kansas Volleyball Association.

The Twin Valley League for the third straight season had a pair of teams earn State titles as the Centralia Panthers finished the year 44-1 and 1A-DI State champs for the second straight year, while Washington County won the 2A State title for the second time in the last three years, finishing 39-4. The Axtell Eagles brought home a third place trophy for the TVL, claiming third in Class 1A-DII, capping the year with a 28-16 record. The Royal Valley Panthers earned the other top notch performance, placing third at the 4A-DII state tournament to earn the Panthers first ever volleyball trophy in school history.

For the Centralia Panthers who defended their 1A-DI State title had four gals earned State All-Tournament team honors. Seniors, Liz Hasenkamp, Katy Haufler and Amaris Jones and sophomore, Cassidy Haufler picked up the All-Tournament honors in the process of leading Centralia to their 12th State volleyball title in school history.

In Class 1A-DII the Axtell Eagles finished the year third place, as they returned to the State tournament for the first time since 2005 and matched their performance from then this year. Helping lead the way was senior, Ashley Buessing and junior's Taylor Feldkamp and Kiersten Talbot who all three earned State All-Tournament team honors.

Three Washington County Tigers earned State All-Tournament team honors as the Tigers won the Class 2A State title for the sixth time in school history. Senior, Erin Alexander, junior, Taylor Powell and sophomore, Cammie Miller all three garnered All-Tournament team honors.

In Class 4A-DII the Royal Valley Panthers had senior, Hannah Beam and junior Annie Lee Anderson both earn State All-Tournament team honors as they helped the Panthers finish third at the State tournament and bring home the school’s first trophy in volleyball.

It was another successful season on the volleyball court for the area with six area teams at State competitions and four claiming a top three finishes or better.
