Nemaha Central Thunder hit the road on Friday for their only non-league game of the year, outside of mid-season tournament action and it was a couple of close ball games, with the Thunder getting the split on the night. Lady Thunder fell 34-30 at Wamego, while the boys trailed most of the game but hit a buzzer beater to steal the 50-49 road win.

The night started off with a sluggish pace in the girls game as neither team could find a groove early, more so the home team in Wamego as Nemaha Central held them to four points in the first quarter and led 8-4 after one period. Wamego made a push in the second quarter and tied the game at 17-17, but the Thunder was able to end the first half on a 4-0 run to lead 21-17 at the half. The shooting struggles continued for both teams in the second half as a combined eight points were scored in the third quarter and Nemaha Central clung to a two-point lead 24-22 going into the fourth period. In the fourth Wamego took the lead with a three-pointer, making it 25-24 and the Red Raiders didn't give the lead back to Nemaha Central going on to comeback for the 34-30 win.

Wamego was led by senior, Lanie Page in the game who scored 20 of the teams 34 points in the game, while Tessa Seeberger chipped in 10 points. Nemaha Central in the loss was led by Rachael Baumgartner who scored 14 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA in the loss sending the Thunder to a 2-1 mark on the season.

The boys matchup started off just like the girls with a sluggish pace as neither team really found any consistency on the offensive end of the floor. The two teams traded buckets in the first quarter and Wamego held the 12-9 lead after the first quarter that lead grew to five by halftime as Wamego held the 27-22 lead. In the second half the lead grew even more going up to 10 points, multiple times but Nemaha Central had runs of their own in them especially in the fourth quarter. The lead dwindled down to under five, down to one and then the Thunder tied the game in the final minute of the contest. Wamego with the possession got a drive by senior, Kyler Alderson and the made the bucket with a chance for a old-fashion three-point play but he missed the free throw making it a 49-47 game with under 10 seconds, too go. The Thunder were heavily guarded by Wamego behind the arc and as time was expiring junior, Tristan Allen threw a three from about five steps behind the arc and drained it to help the Thunder steal the 50-49 road win.

With the win Nemaha Central improved to 3-0 on the season and was led by senior, Devin Henry who scored six of the teams nine first quarter points and finished with a team high 13 points. Abe Elder and Luke Holthaus chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively and Holthaus scored his 10 in limited minutes due to foul trouble. Allen chipped in eight points, none bigger than the buzzer beating three-pointer to win the game and earn him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio.

Wamego in the loss was led by Alderson and Dillon Blain who each finished with 12 points.

Nemaha Central turns their attention back to Big Seven League play on Tuesday as they travel to Hiawatha for action.
