The Holton Wildcats closed out the first part of the wrestling season with a second place finish at the Ottawa Dual Tournament on Saturday.

The tournament was set up as a pool play team bracket with the Holton Wildcats competing in Pool "2" going 3-1 in pool play. The Wildcats opened up pool play with a 42-35 loss to Osawatomie, but bounced back to win the final three duals of pool play and advance to the Championship bout against the winner of Pool "1." Holton registered a 54-27 match win over Fort Scott, beat Topeka West 57-24 and topped Baldwin 51-23 on the mats.

The 3-1 record in pool play was enough to get Holton to the Championship bout to face off with Valley Center who won Pool "1." Valley Center picked up the bout win by just two points, 36-34, as Holton won six matches and a forfeit win, also in the matchup.

Highlighting the day for Holton, were four undefeated grapplers on the day as Lucas Lovvorn competing mainly at 160lbs on the day went 5-0 with four pinfall wins, while Nathan Shields also posted four pinfall wins going 4-0 at 220lbs in competition. Justin Rieschick (145lbs) and Tyler Price (138lbs) both also put together unbeaten days on the mat for Holton each finishing 4-0, with three and four pinfall wins, respectively.

Jameson Lutz (126lbs), Justin Pool (132lbs), Trey Haverkamp (152lbs) and Kegan Meister (285lbs) all notched a pair of wins for the Wildcats, while Kyler Tannahill (182lbs) and Brandon Lehnherr (195lbs) each picked up one win on the day.

The Wildcats head into the holiday break with a strong start to season and will get back to competition on January 3rd at Spring Hill.
