KBCA Releases Latest Rankings With 15 Area Teams Ranked -- Dec. 21st

The holiday break has hit and teams have at least four or more games under their belt on the basketball court this season, as they looking to use the break to work on things for the early portion of the season. With the games in the books for a few weeks the KBCA has released its final rankings for 2014 and 15 area teams head into the holiday break ranked in the Top 10 of their respective Class.

Four teams area ranked in Class 4A-DII this week; both Holton Wildcat teams remained in the rankings this week as both teams head into the break 3-2 on the year. The Holton girls check in at fifth in the polls this week up two spots after topping Riverside 58-16 in their last game, while the Holton boys moved down to seventh in the rankings, after beating Riverside 56-44 in their last game. Two other boys teams are ranked in 4A-DII this week as Royal Valley and Atchison rank eighth and tenth, respectively going into the holiday break. Royal Valley improved to 4-1 on the year after beating Santa Fe Trail 63-52 on the road last Friday, while Atchison sits at 2-2 on the year and beat KC Christian 57-41 to head into the break.

Class 3A, continues to house three area teams in the rankings but there was a shakeup of the area teams. This week both Sabetha Bluejays teams are in the rankings for the first time this season as the lady Bluejays who head into the break 5-0, leaped into the polls at fifth this week after beating Hiawatha 62-37 and the Sabetha boys are also 5-0 after beating Hiawatha 68-28 and remain ranked seventh in the 3A polls. The Nemaha Central boys also remain in the rankings this week and are up one spot to fourth, after starting the year 5-0, beating Perry Lecompton 72-52 last Friday in their final game for the break.

The Washington County Tigers are the only teams highlighting the Class 2A polls headed into the holiday break as both the girls and boy’s teams remain ranked on the season. The lady Tigers remain unbeaten on the season at 6-0, beating Wetmore 45-36 last Friday to keep that unblemished record into the break and remain ranked second in the polls. The boys moved up one spot to ninth this week after topping Wetmore 81-26 to head into the break 5-1 on the year.

Five teams out of the Twin Valley League continue to remain ranked in Class 1A-Division I as they have been in the polls since the preseason rankings were released. The Hanover boys head into the break at 6-0 and remain ranked number one in the polls, after beating Onaga 56-44 and Diller-Odell (NE) 63-45 back on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both Valley Heights and Centralia have had their girls and boys teams ranked all season, thus far and continue that trend going into the break. The Valley Heights girls sit at 5-0 on the year, winning 58-29 at Doniphan West in the last game and remain ranked second, while the Mustang boys won a three overtime thriller at Doniphan West 87-85 to improve to 3-2 and remain ranked fifth. The Centralia boys head into the break at 5-0 after a 56-42 road win over Linn and continue to be ranked third, while the lady Panthers are 4-1 after beating Linn 47-37 and are ranked ninth in the polls.

In Class 1A-Division II the Axtell lady Eagles jumped into the polls last week and remain ranked tenth this week after a 6-2 start to the season. Axtell picked up a 57-21 road win over Clifton-Clyde to head into the holiday break.

Teams are now on a two week break from action most teams will hit the court again on January 6th, with a few teams playing that Saturday and Friday before to get back to action.
