2015 TVL Basketball Tournament -- Girls Semifinals

The 2015 Twin Valley League tournament continued with girl's action on Friday night

Girls

Consolation Game -- #11 Blue Valley vs. #10 Clifton-Clyde       (Blue Valley won 41-39)

It was a fast start to the game for Blue Valley as they charged out of the gate and lead 14-4 after the first quarter against Clifton-Clyde and appeared to be in the drive seat of the game. The Eagles didn't go away quietly putting together a 12-4 second quarter to trail 18-16 at the half to the Rams. The game was nip and tuck the rest of the way and Blue Valley held of Clifton-Clyde for the 41-39 win. The Rams improved to 2-9 on the year with the win, as Megan Plummer posted 13 points and Sami Pfaff added 17 points to lead Blue Valley to the win. Elizabeth Nobert led Clifton-Clyde in the loss with 16 points as the Eagles fell to 3-8 on the year.

Consolation Semifinal -- #8 Wetmore vs. #5 Troy          (Wetmore won 42-38) 

It was a tight game early as Troy led 11-8 after the first quarter but a 17-6 second quarter by the Wetmore Cardinals pushed them to the lead and the Cardinals would hold off Troy in the second half to hold on for the 42-38 win in the consolation semifinals. Dakota McQueen again paced the Cardinals posting 18 points, while Gerae Haverkamp added 10 points as the Cardinals moved to 6-6 on the season. Troy in the loss fell to 6-5 and was led by Blair Weishaar who scored 14 points in the loss.

Consolation Semifinal -- #6 Doniphan West vs. #2 Valley Heights      (Valley Heights won 58-34) 

After a slow start to the game Valley Heights galloped ahead in the battle of Mustangs using a 20-8 second quarter, after only leading 9-4 after the first quarter. Doniphan West was never able to overcome the deficit at the half and fell to Valley Heights who bounced back from their first loss of the season with the 58-34 win. Valley Heights was led by Kayla Smith who scored 21 points, while Sidney Blackburn chipped in 19 points, as Valley Heights moved to 9-1 on the year. Doniphan West with the loss fell to 5-5 on the year as Regan Gibson led them with 17 points in the loss.

Semifinals -- #4 Axtell vs. #1 Washington County         (Washington County won 44-36) 

It was a tight ballgame throughout the competition and the Washington County Tigers had to hold off Axtell late for the 44-36 win. The Eagles held the 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, as a 7-0 run in the quarter gave Axtell the lead, but a 13-9 second period gave the Tigers a 23-20 advantage at the half. In the second half Axtell tied the game multiple times and took the lead, but the Tigers answered back. Washington County made 7-9 free throws shot in the fourth quarter to help them earn the win and improve to 11-0 on the year and punch a ticket into the League tourney Championship game, where they will try and win their fourth League tournament title. The Tigers were led by Erin Alexander who scored 15 points, while Heidi Stegman chipped in 13 points, hitting three three-pointers. Axtell in the loss fell to 11-3 on the year and was led by Kiersten Talbot who scored 11 points, while Courtney Heinen added 10 points.

Semifinals -- #7 Linn vs. #3 Centralia             (Centralia won 60-57) 

The pace was set early as both teams looked to work certain advantages; Centralia feed the post early while Linn took advantage of opportunities from the free throw line going 9-12. After being tied at 13-13 after the first quarter, Centralia worked out to a five-point lead at the half, 33-28. Both teams continued to hit big shots in the second half and Centralia had answers for everything Linn threw at them, ultimately earning the 60-57 win. With the win the Panthers improved to 9-1 on the season and moved their win streak to nine-straight games, while earning a spot in the League tournament Championship game and will vie for a 10 League tourney title in school history and first since 2009. The Panthers were led by Mayda Stallbaumer who had a season-high 18 points, including a 12 point second quarter, while Katie Glatczak also posted a season-high with 16 points. Linn in the loss fell to 6-4 on the season, as Kesiah Thalmann led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Nicole Ohlde added 17 points and Kendra Bargman scored 10 points.
