KBCA Releases Latest Rankings With 16 Area Teams Ranked -- Jan. 25th

Mid-season tournaments are in the books for many area teams, while a few will play their tournament action this week, making a lot of games played on the court in the course of last week and this week. The KBCA released its latest rankings and this week 16 area teams are ranked.

Class 4A-Division II polls are highlighted on the boy's side by area teams as Atchison, Holton and Royal Valley boys are all ranked. The Atchison Redmen jumped up three spots this week in the rankings to fifth after taking second at the Tonganoxie Invitational last week and are 7-4 on the season. For the Holton Wildcats they moved down to eighth place this week with a 7-5 record, taking fourth at the Tonganoxie Invitational last week. Royal Valley boys remained ranked at ninth this week with their 8-4 record, going 3-0 at their Panther Classic last week. The Holton lady Wildcats also remained in the Class 4A-DII rankings, but fell down to eighth after taking sixth in the Tonganoxie Invitational and moving to 7-5 on the year.

Class 3A continues to house both the Sabetha Bluejay girls and boys teams in the rankings and the Nemaha Central Thunder boys in the rankings. The Bluejay boys despite taking their first loss of the season remained at second in the rankings at 11-1 and after taking third in the Burlington Invitational. The Sabetha girls just like the boys suffered their first loss of the season and took second in the Burlington Invitational last week, moving to 11-1 on the season and falling two spots to fifth this week in the polls. The Nemaha Central Thunder boys sit at 10-2 on the season and took third in their home tournament last week and check in at ninth this week in the rankings, moving down two spots.

In Class 2A the Washington County Tiger boys and girls continue to be ranked as the girls fell down one spot to third this week and the boys are down two spots to seventh. The lady Tigers took second for the second straight year in the Twin Valley League tournament and are now 11-1, while the boys are 10-2 and also took second in the TVL tournament last week. The Valley Falls lady Dragons this week are the only Northeast Kansas League team in the rankings as they moved down one spot to sixth. The Dragons have one eight in a row and were idle last week and gear up for the JCN Invitational this week.

Five TVL teams continue to be ranked in Class 1A-Division I this week in the KBCA rankings. On the boys side the Hanover Wildcats remain number one in the rankings moving to 11-0 on the year last week while winning the TVL tournament for the fifth time in the last seven years. The Centralia Panther boys despite taking their first two losses of the year remained at number two, moving to 9-2 on the year and taking sixth in the TVL tournament last week. The Valley Heights boys are also still in the rankings but tumbled four spots to eighth as they are 8-5 on the season and took seventh at the TVL tournament. The Centralia and Valley Heights girls also both remained in the rankings this week, too. The lady Panthers moved up to seventh this week in the polls after claiming their first TVL tournament title since 2009, improving to 10-1 on the year in the process. While the lady Mustangs took their first two losses of the season and fell to 9-2 on the year and down to tenth in the rankings.

Class 1A-Division II continues to just have one area team in the rankings as the Axtell lady Eagles remain ranked at eighth this week after moving to 12-3 on the season, after taking third at the TVL Tournament this year.
