Troy Earns Sub State Sweep of KC Christian

It was a double-header at Troy High School on Tuesday night and both Trojans teams picked up convincing wins to advance to the semifinals of the Valley Falls 2 A Sub State.  

GIRLS = Troy 58, KC Christian 37

It took Troy nearly five and a half minutes to get their first point of the game, but fortunetly they only trailed 5-0 and then rattled off 14 straight points to take the lead for good.  Leading 19-14 at halftime, the Lady Trojans scored the first nine points of the second half and pulled away for the win with 39 total points in the second half.  

Senior, Breanna Smith, scored 14 of her 15 points in the final two quarters while Madi Marriott added 12 points and hit two of the five treys for Troy.  The Trojans forced 26 turnovers and made 13 of 19 free throws to guarantee a winning season with a 12-10 record and will play Jackson Heights on Friday night in the semifinals.  KC Christian got 20 points from sophomore, Callie Eldred before she fouled out, and Katelyn Holst added 10 of her 11 points in the fouth quarter before the Lady Panthers finished the year 6-15.  

BOYS = Troy 83, KC Christian 64

This game was never close and Troy jumped to a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored KC Christian in every frame to pull away for the big first round win.  It was the third highest scoring game of the year for the Trojans who also made 18 of 20 free throws.  

Senior, Collin Jasper, who was honored before the game for reaching the 1,000 point milestone in his high school career, led the team with 16 points, including 8 early to set the tone and put Troy ahead for good.  Nathan Gaarder added 15, while Jake Ross and Wil Smith each chipped in 12 and Reid Greaser added 9 with Jay Whetstine scoring 8 in the balanced offensive attack.  

Troy is the number two seed and has a rematch Thursday night versus Jeff County North, a team they beat 55-47 in December earlier this season.  Jackson Heights and Bishop Seabury boys are the other boys semifinalist at the Valley Falls 2A Sub State on Thursday night with live coverage on KNZA 103.9 FM.   

KC Christian had 18 turnovers and was led by three players that will all return to next year's team.  Mitchell Paul (sophomore) scored 21 while BLase Bivovar (junior) added 14 and Noah Tally (freshman) had 10 for th Panthers who finished their season with a 7-13 record.
