Class D2 top ranked Falls City Sacred Heart won their opening round game in the Nebraska Girls State Basketball Tournament Thursday morning, defeating the Crawford Rams 44-30.
Sacred Heart led 9-8 in the first quarter and went on a 20-0 run to take control of the game and never looked back. Crawford made up some ground late in the game when Coach Luke Santo was substituting freely to save the legs of his players for the next two games.
Senior Abby Magdanz led a balanced attack with 11 points. Elizabeth Magdanz and Jade Hill added 10 each and Maggie Goltz scored 8 for the Irish.
Sacred Heat will play Friday at 2 p-m at the Devaney Sports Center against the 5th seed, Stuart Broncos. Stuart ran by Mullen 59-37. Stuart is ranked 3rd in D2 and Sacred Heart, now on a 21-game winning streak is ranked #1.
