Top senior athletes from Northeast Kansas came together on Saturday on the campus of Highland Community College to compete with and against each other in an All-Star competition showcase in volleyball, girls’ basketball and boys’ basketball.

The day started with volleyball action and it was the Navy team lead by Doniphan West head coach, Bailey Lanter coming out victorious winning the first three sets in a best of five; but the teams would play another set which the Gold team would register a win in as they were led by Holton head coach, Janelle Noel. Set one was tight early until Navy went on a run to push out to a 15-7 lead and then lead 19-8 when Gold called a timeout. The lead continued to grow after the timeout for the Navy team going on for the 25-8 set one win. Set two was a closer contest as Navy led the entire way but midway through the set it was tied at 15-15 and Navy put together consecutive points to grab the 25-20 set win. Gold held an early led in set three but Navy took the lead and the match win with a 25-14 set three win. Both teams played one final set and the Gold team earned a hard fought set four win going to extra points as Gold leading early had to battle back into the set after giving up the set to win 27-25 in set four.

Atchison's Laurene Cushinberry help lead the Navy team with multiple kills and three aces to close help close out set one, while Valley Heights Mustang, Sidney Blackburn, Royal Valley Panther, Hannah Beam and Doniphan West Mustang, Regan Gibson each registered multiple kills upfront for Navy. Katie Campbell (Horton), Emily Lane (Valley Falls), Shailey Caudle (ACCHS) and Hannah Hundley (ACCHS) were all the Navy team.

For the Gold team, Nemaha Central Thunder, Madison Koch and Maur Hill's, Catherine Campbell packed the punch upfront leading the team in kills. While, Addie Dulac (Maur Hill), Liz Hasenkamp (Centalia), Emily Ebert (Clay Center), Ashley Cook (Holton) and Ashley Buessing (Axtell) were all on the Gold team.

Just like in the volleyball matchup the Navy team came out victorious in the girls’ basketball showdown, also claiming the 82-70 victory. Navy worked out to a 41-33 lead at halftime and held a double digit lead through a good portion of the second halftime but the Gold team cut the lead down to as close as three-points at 64-61 with less than five minutes to go but didn't get closer. The Navy team was led by Valley Heights head coach, Jenny Yungeberg, while Topeka high head coach, Hannah Blackburn led the Gold team.

But the Gold team slow chipped away at the lead and ultimately made the comeback taking the lead in the final minute with a three-pointer from Axtell Eagle, Tyler Jones and after a missed free throw Troy's Collin Jasper hoisted a shot at the buzzer for Navy but it came up short and the Gold team came back to win 84-83. Holton head coach, Ryan Noel led the Gold team, while Troy head coach, Dallas Keller led the Navy team.

A trio of guys in double figures led a balanced Gold team in the win as Sabetha Bluejay, Kellen Russell posted 11 points, while Silver Lake's, Brennan Damman and Atchison Redman, Rashaun Chambers each tallied 10 points.
