Several NEKS Top Seniors Compete at NCK All-Star Games

Several area athletes competed in All-Star competitions over the weekend and some competing in multiple All-Star festivities. Fourteen area athletes took to the court at Cloud County in Concordia, KS in the NCK All-Star games over the weekend and competing in volleyball and basketball action.

The girls’ basketball game proved to be one side in the end with the Gold team coming out the 93-68 victory over the Black team. The Black team led 42-40 at the half but the Gold team behind the leading scorer of the game Beliot's, Kaley Broeckelman outscored the Black team 53-26 in the second half. Erin Alexander from Washington County was on the winning team contributing 11 points for the Gold squad, while five gals from the area competed for the Black team. Nemaha Central Thunder, Jaci Swart led the Black team with a team high 12 points, while her Thunder running mate, Kennedy McKernan chipped in three points. Valley Heights Mustangs, Cassidy Coggins and Sidney Blackburn posted six and four points, respectively, while Hanover Wildcat, Ramona Weber added five points.

The boys contest proved to be a high scoring affair as the Blackburn team picked up the 113-90 win, leading 61-41 at the half on their way to the win. Nemaha Central Thunder, Abe Elder led the way for the Black team finishing with a game-high 19 points and was named the offensive MVP in the contest, while Holton Wildcat, Garett Beecher added 12 points for the Black team. A trio of area athletes competed for the Gold team as Jacob Dickey of Jeff West scored eight points, Andrew Siefert of Clifton-Clyde scored six points and Trey Tanking of Holton tallied three points.

Five gals and one area coach also participated in the volleyball All-Star match at Cloud County as Washington County Tigers, Taylor Powell and Alexander both played in the volleyball match while their high school coach Laramie Jueneman coach in the All-Star game. Valley Heights Mustang, Coggins, along with Linn Bulldog, Kesiah Thalmann and Marysville Bulldog, Chloe Cudney all participated in the volleyball match, too.
