Holton Team & Atchison's Gabe Julo Win Hiawatha Boys Golf Invitational

Eight area teams teed it up in Hiawatha for boy’s golf action on a beautiful Friday afternoon it was plenty of competitive action at the Hiawatha Invitational.

The Holton Wildcats pounced with the best team score posting a 176 for its four-man team score to claim the tournament title. Maur Hill-Mount Academy followed with a 182 team score to place second and Immaculata scored a 184 to take third place, while Sabetha finished one-stroke behind the Raiders with a 185 taking fourth. Atchison, Falls City and Hiawatha rounded out the team finishes with scores of 195, 199 and 215, respectively to take fifth, sixth and seventh. Horton only had three competitors so did not qualify for a team score.

Holton on their way to the top team performance had three Top 10 individual performances as Braden Sides, Parker Sides and Hayden May placed fourth, sixth and eighth with rounds of 42, 44 and 44, respectively. Garett Beecher finished out the Wildcats four-man team score with a 46, while both Nils Bergsten and AJ Haussler also competed for Holton notching rounds of 48 and 49.

Third place team the Immaculata Raiders like Holton had three Top 10 individual performances at the Hiawatha Invitational. Immaculata was led by a third place finish by Evin Wheaton who carded a 42 on the day good for third place, while Ian Wheaton notched a round of 43 to take fifth and Dawson Schroeder scored a 44 to take ninth. A round of 55 by Jacob Murphy finished out the Raiders team score on the day, while Max Campbell and Justin Varney each scored a round of 70 and 71 competing for Immaculata.

Leading the charge for Maur Hill was Christian Wessel who scored a 41 to finish second, while Patrick Sullivan shot a 44 for tenth place. Rounds of 48 and 49 by Canyon Miller and Sam Sowers finished out the Ravens four-man team score, while Drew Harris and Joe Kuckleman also were in action notching rounds of 52 and 62.

An even par performance by Gabe Julo of Atchison was the best individual performance on the day as he posted a round of 36 winning the competition by five strokes. Finishing out the Redmen's four-man team score was rounds of 50, 53 and 56 by Derek Thompson, Dustin Goodman and Jase Nelson, respectively. Austin Ober and Matthew Sowers both also competed for Atchison scoring rounds of 65 and 77.

Falls City Tiger, Aaron Kurpgeweir grabbed seventh place for the other Top 10 finish on the day after carding a round of 44, while Brody Weinmann also shot a 44, just finishing outside of the Top 10. Cody Frederick and Austin Babb each scored 55 and 56, while Austin Aldana and Bailey Bindle both carded rounds of 67 and 71.

The host Hiawatha Red Hawks had six competitors on the day with four guys finishing under 60 to account for the Red Hawks four-man team score as rounds of 51, 52, 55 and 57 were posted by Taylor Jacobsen, Tom Nolte, Josh Sangrait and Keenan Hinton, respectively. Zach Perry and Lucas Holladay also competed for Hiawatha tallying rounds of 64 and 70.

Horton Chargers had three golfers tee it up at the Hiawatha Invitational carding rounds of 51, 69 and 71, respectively for Cameron Smith, Rylee Rodvelt and Rex Bruning.
